Homemaker Beginner in America

Having seen how small apartments are in Manila and Japan, I was surprised to see how big one-bedroom apartments are in Texas. Our first home is a one-bedroom apartment situated in a nice neighborhood in San Antonio, Texas.

Living Room

Chee got that sofa and loveseat set at 50$ from one of the garage sales around the neighborhood.

2nd Living and Dining

Our dining table is a nice white and glass thingy table from Ikea (just covered for now since I think we're having a housewarming party here). The loveseat and table are donations from our good friend in San Antonio.

Bedroom

I didn't mind the no-bed-frame-bed bedroom because I lived in Japan and most of my beds are usually on the floor (Japanese Style).

The black tables and shelves are from Ikea. I was still feeling new to the idea of carpet all around because carpet to me is only for "the elites". Houses in the Philippines are not carpeted maybe because it's dusty and hot. If the house is carpeted in Manila, then the AC must be on all the time, something like that. In Japan, on the other hand, carpets  are everywhere because you're not supposed to wear your shoes when you enter the houses. So the carpets remain clean.

Our kitchen however was saved from the carpet for obvious reasons.

Kitchen

Between the two of us, Chee is more knowledgeable on aesthetics, design etc. I on the other hand is concentrating heavily on function. Sometimes we would clash because I didn't think that a particular piece of furniture that Chee's been pointing to would be very useful or would be convenient for the both of us. Chee would then mock me of my aesthetic and interior choices.

This particular ikea book case here has gone a long way. When we went to ikea for the first time, I had a wish list in mind - The wish list includes a simple shelving solution for my shoes. And anything would work for me as long as it displays my shoes so I can easily choose and grab in the my mornings. Chee had another idea on the book case but I won of course.

Shoe shelf

This was my 3rd month in the US. By the end of the year, that book case can no longer hold my shoes.
