The Hacking Diaries

I woke up today feeling so creative, and wanting to publish and talk about my new mood boards and designs galore. Only to find out that… Oh my site was hacked… again!

As a tech professional, this hurts. It’s a sharp sharp pain, even to admit that it happened to me twice. And for a blog site that has like 0 visitors, how the hell did this happen to me… again!

I really liked Wordpress that I gave it another chance, maybe 3rd time I think? I thought wrapping up the LAMP stack behind the mighty GCP infrastructure would give it a better protection or something. The thing is, and I’ve known this since the first hack (and ever since!), regardless where your LAMP is, as long as you have a phpmyadmin site that’s exposed out there, people can still hack their way in. I guess this is it. Wordpress security is just flawed. The only right thing I did this time, I guess, was paying premium for backups.

Had to go through multiple rounds of problem solving to recover my files, since my premium backup is kinda flawed as well. Thankfully, the mighty GCP still kept all the content intact. And after a slight panic attack, my rusty terminal skills made it thru (no I am not a linux expert). Needless to say, I spent the whole weekend recovering my files. So here we are! My content and wild thoughts all the way from 2006 are safe!

Anyway, I’ve been rewatching Bridget Jones to feel good. I hope they just end it there in Bridget Jones Baby. I really loved the ending. Just please please make the 4th installment stop!
